Eden Prairie, MN. – It was an impressive day of golf at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate Presented by 3M hosted at Olympic Hills Golf Club. Currently, there are two players sitting atop the leaderboard.
Mika Liu of Beverly Hills, California had an incredible start to Round 1. After making birdie on her first hole, Liu continued to hole-out for eagle on 2. She continued the momentum shooting 6-under-par on the front 9. Mika sits atop the leaderboard at 4-under-par 68.
University of Southern California’s Robynn Ree had a total of seven birdies today. She carded a 4-under-par putting her in a tie for the lead.
The University of Arkansas Razorbacks lead the team competition by 3 strokes at even par. Our 2016 Individual Champion Maria Fassi’s eagle on her final hole played a major part in the team’s success in the first round. Maria is tied for third at 2-under-par along with Furman’s Natalie Srinivasan and Miami’s Renate Grimstad.
Following the round, Annika conducted a Q & A with the players and coaches as well as some members of Olympic Hills Golf Club. Annika reminisced on her captaincy at the 2017 Solheim Cup, making history shooting 59 and teeing it up at Colonial. She also spoke about the transition from playing college to professional golf, and discussed some of the lessons she learned throughout her career about both golf and life.
“I’m urging all of you, whatever it is in your life, player, parent, teacher or coach, do something sometimes that you’re a little afraid of, something that you know you should be doing but you may be afraid to try. You’ll be amazed, afterwards, that achievement is something that will carry on for a while.”
