The fourth time was the charm for Beatrice Wallin. After playing in the ANNIKA Invitational Europe the past three years, Wallin took home the 2016 title at Bokskogens Golf Club with a tournament total of 6-under-par 210.
Wallin, from Gothenburg, Sweden, began the round two shots behind second-round leader Benedetta Moresco of Italy. She went to work immediately, making birdie on five of the first seven holes; shooting 5-under-par 31 on the front nine.
Despite the hot start, Wallin faced tough competition. The round-of-the-day came from Cecilie Finne-Ipsen of Denmark who broke the course record at Bokskogens Golf Club, shooting 7-under-par 65.
”I am extremely happy with how I played today,” said Wallin. ”I was very nervous before the round, but my friends calmed me down. It’s great to have friends who care not only about themselves, but their competitors as well.”
After birdies on Nos. 12 and 13, Wallin, sitting at 7-under-par, had a comfortable lead and coasted to the victory with a final round of 5-under-par 67.
”I am extremely excited to play in the ANNIKA Invitational USA next year as Annika has been a huge inspiration to me,” Wallin said.
After shooting 4-under-par 68 in the final round, Paula Neira Garcia of Spain finished in a tie for second at 2-under-par 214 with Charlotte Lafourcade of France. Lafourcade eagled the par 5 finishing hole to vault her into the tie for second and earn a spot into the 2017 ANNIKA Invitational USA with Wallin and Garcia.
Bokskogens Golf Club Director Thomas Ahlberg was thrilled with the event.
”Our club policy is to host large, prestigious tournaments,” said Alhberg. ”We have fantastic support from the members, who always are keen on helping out. When it comes to the ANNIKA Invitational Europe, everything feels spot on.”
Next year’s ANNIKA Invitational Europe will be held at Halmstad Golf Club in the south of Sweden, June 19 – 22, 2017.
