Today is National Girls and Women in Sports Day! National Girls and Women in Sports Day began in 1987 and is a special day to celebrate the accomplishments of female athletes. This day is not just to honor professional athletes: it’s about acknowledging the success and participation girls and women have in sports of all kinds.
I have always been very active and a sports lover. I grew up playing tennis, golf (well, you might have guessed that one…), soccer and skiing. Playing sports taught me many lessons as a kid and I continue to learn even to this day. A few lessons I learned through sports are: how to be a team player, discipline and the power of hard work.
What have sports meant to you?

Annika's Blog
It has let me discover who I am, it gives me confidence that I even when I’m not playing sports. Sports have been my life since I was 3 years old. Even when injuries make you watch from the sidelines or withdraw from a tourament, you still continue learning life lessons. It has taught me through the years that it take a lot of practice to excel and you must have motivation and passion for the sport or else you won’t excel. It has taught me that I have to go the extra mile to be the best. Even if it’s not staying up all night with friends or waking up early or not eating a bunch of junk food, it is definitly worth it. Being a student-athlete has taught me time management. Espeacially with being in seventh grade and being stressed out from school, it must stay at school and you can’t carry it over to your game or tournament. I have played just about every sport there is and it has been I wonderful journey so far. All this wouldn’t be possible without God giving me gifts and talent. Some quotes that have inspired me: “You never know how stron you are until being strong is the only choice you have” “Strength is nothing more that how well you hide the pain” “I’d be lying if I told you that losing was something I could handle.” “Pain is a good thing it let’s me know I’m still alive” “be strong know because things will get better it might be stormy now but it can’t rain forever” “My hunger for success is fulled by my passion”
Thanks Annika for being such an influence in my life and to all women’s sports!
That’s great Anna! Keep it up!!
