The seventh-annual ANNIKA Invitational at Mission Hills just finished up this past week. Founded in 2011 as the second event in the ANNIKA Invitational Series, it is a 54-hole stroke-play tournament featuring Asia’s top junior female golfers, ages nine to 17.
The event, hosted on the Annika Course at Mission Hills Resort in Dongguan, China, was filled with excitement on and off the course.
In addition to two new tournament perks (an inaugural team competition and two qualifying spots for an LPGA event), the week also included our 2017 champion, Hui-Ying Shi, making a first-round hole-in-one en route to her one-stroke victory. Congratulations to Hui-Ying Shi! After round one, she held a one-shot lead after an impressive round of 69 and aforementioned hole-in-one. The second round concluded with a new leader, Jia Yi Wang, who took a one-shot lead over last year’s champion, Ho Yu An, and first-round leader, Shi, into the final round. As they stepped to the 18th tee, Shi and An were tied for lead but, unfortunately, An bogeyed the last hole to finish one back. Shi played beautiful golf all week, firing a final-round 70 to finish at 4-under-par for the tournament and take home the trophy!
In the newly instituted team portion of the competition, individual third place finisher, Jia Yi Wang, along with playing partner Tian Lv, secured the top prize for China. A close second was last year’s overall champion, Ho Yu An, and playing partner, Hsin Chia Chang, both from Chinese Taipei.
Off the course, the girls enjoyed some fun activities including a tour of the Mission Hills Golf Museum, a clinic conducted by Annika, and a gala tournament dinner where they enjoyed a great meal and a player talent show.
It was yet another successful ANNIKA Invitational at Mission Hills. We were treated to some outstanding golf plus many enjoyable activities all week long. A big thank you to Mission Hills Resort and its hard-working team for all its support this past week.
