The seventh-annual ANNIKA Invitational at Mission Hills is less than a week away!
Hosted by Mission Hills Resort and ANNIKA Foundation, the tournament will take place April 26-28 with the official practice round on Tuesday, April 25. Founded in 2010, it is the first junior girls-only event to be held in China, as well as the first ANNIKA Invitational held outside of the U.S.
Players will be competing on the Annika Course at Mission Hills Golf Club. Designed by Annika and opened in 2003, it features unbelievable views of lush jungle and mountains. Throughout the course, there are some dramatic changes in elevation which puts precision at a premium. The well-manicured landscaping surrounding the holes creates an aesthetically appealing “botanical” type atmosphere. It is truly a sight to see!
This year nearly 100 players are scheduled to participate in three age divisions. There will be a lot of familiar faces on the course such as Tong An, Dao Xian Jin and Amrita Anand, each of whom is playing in the event for the fourth time. In addition, last year’s overall champion Ho Yu An will return to defend her crown.
The event is a 54-hole stroke-play tournament and the results count toward both World Amateur Golf Ranking System and China Golf Association Junior Ranking System. In addition, the top three finishers in the 11-14 and 15-17 age divisions (combined) will receive invitations to the 2018 ANNIKA Invitational USA.
Everyone at the Foundation is very excited for the event, including Annika. She says: “We’re very proud of our partnership with Mission Hills and our Foundation’s role in establishing China’s first all-girls tournament. The improvement in overall quality of play since the inaugural event is eye-opening and speaks to the great strides being made to grow the game in this part of the world.”
Past winners of the ANNIKA Invitational at Mission Hills include Ho Yu An (2016, Chinese Taipei), Yan Liu (2015, China), Yuan Ru Yin (2014, China), Rong Ji (2013, China), Xiang Sui (2012, China) and Charlotte Thomas (2011, England).
A big thanks to Rolex and Callaway for their continued support of this event. We’re looking forward to another wonderful week!
