Yu Sang Hou of Chinese Taipei extended her lead to two shots after carding a 4-under-par 68 in the second round of the ANNIKA Invitational at Mission Hills.
The ANNIKA Invitational at Mission Hills is a 54-hole stroke play competition played on the par-72 Annika Course at Mission Hills Golf Club in China and is being contested by 42 players from four different countries. Created in 2011, it is the first girls-only junior golf tournament held in China and was the first ANNIKA Invitational event held outside of the United States.
On a rainy day that saw the middle of the round halted for over three hours due to inclement weather, Hou carded five birdies, including four in her final six holes to push her 36-hole total to 4-under-par 140. Hou currently leads the overall competition and the Under 18 division over China’s Yan Liu who fired a 3-under-par 69 and sits in solo second at 142. In third is An Ni Guo, of China, who is at 2-over-par 146. In a tie for fourth are Yi Han Wang of Chinese Taipei and ANNIKA Academy ELITE Athlete Rui Xin Liu of China at 3-over-par 147.
Ho Yu An of Chinese Taipei leads the Under 15 division by three strokes after a 2-over-par 74 and a 153 36-hole total.
Following play, a tournament dinner was hosted to welcome all of the ANNIKA Invitational at Mission Hills participants. Annika greeted everybody and everyone was treated to a talent show that featured different performances from the players that included a piano solo, drum solo and a group performance of the ”Cup Song” (made famous by the movie Pitch Perfect). Players were then split into teams and competed in three competitive games that included a reverse ”Simon Says”, balloon relay, and a golf relay where players delivered balls to a putting green by bouncing it on a wedge. Each member of the winning team received an autographed photo of Annika.
The winner of this year’s event will receive an exemption into the LET’s 2016 Mission Hills World Ladies Championship to be played at Mission Hills and 2015 Xiamen Open International. The champion will also receive an exemption into the LAGT’s 2016 Hong Kong Ladies Open. The top three overall finishers will receive exemptions to the 2016 ANNIKA Invitational USA to be played at Reunion Resort in Orlando, Florida on February 12-15, 2016.
Final-round tee times will begin at 7:20 a.m. on Friday off the No. 1 tee on the Annika Course at Mission Hills Golf Club and will be followed by the Awards Ceremony at 2 p.m. on the 18th green.
