Vivian Lee of Hong Kong holds the overall lead after firing a 4-under-par 68 in the opening round of the fourth annual ANNIKA Invitational at Mission Hills.
The ANNIKA Invitational at Mission Hills is a 54-hole stroke play competition played on the par-72 Annika Course at Mission Hills Golf Club in China and is being contested by 58 players from five different countries. It is the first girls-only junior golf tournament held in China and was the first ANNIKA Invitational event held outside of the United States.
On a rain-soaked day on the Annika Course at Mission Hills, Lee seized a one-shot lead in the overall competition and in the Under 15 division by making six birdies to go with two bogeys in her round. In second is Ching-Tzu Chen of Chinese Taipei at 3-under-par 69, while China’s Jia Xin Lin is in third at 2-under-par 70.
Qian Ya Sun, of China, currently holds a two-shot lead in the Under 18 division after a 2-under-par round of 70 that included five birdies. Sun is also in a tie for third in the overall race. Sitting in a tie for second in the Under 18 division at even-par 72 are China’s Yi Fei Wang and Hong Kong’s Ching Nam Lee.
The winner of this year’s event will receive an exemption into the LET’s 2015 Mission Hills World Ladies Championship to be played at Mission Hills. The top three overall finishers will receive exemptions to the 2015 ANNIKA Invitational USA to be played at Reunion Resort in Orlando, Florida on February 13-16, 2015.
Second-round tee times will begin at 8 a.m. on Thursday off the Nos. 1 and 10 tees on the Annika Course at Mission Hills Golf Club and will be followed by the Annika Clinic at 4 p.m. and the Tournament Dinner at 6 p.m.
