Rong Ji and Ru Qing Guan both lead their respective divisions after firing an even-par 72 in the opening round of the third annual ANNIKA Invitational at Mission Hills.
On a very hot and humid day on the Annika Course at Mission Hills, China’s Ji took control of the Under 18 division by making three birdies to go with three bogeys in her even-par round. Ji’s 72 was good enough for a one-shot lead over Taipei’s Xin Li and Yi Ting Lai and Malaysia’s Hee Ying Loy.
Guan, who won the Under 15 division in 2011, finished strong by playing her last six holes two under to post her even-par round. She currently leads the same Under 15 division by one stroke over China’s Xin Ying Wang, and by two strokes over China’s Ziyi Wang.
The winner of this year’s event will receive an exemption into the LET’s 2014 Mission Hills World Ladies Championship to be played at Mission Hills. The top three finishers will receive exemptions to the 2014 ANNIKA Invitational USA to be played at Reunion Resort in Orlando, Florida on January 17-20, 2014.
Second-round tee times will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday off the No. 1 tee on the Annika Course at Mission Hills Golf Club and will be followed by the Annika Clinic at 4 p.m. and the Tournament Dinner at 6 p.m.
