As part of her captain duties for the 2017 Solheim Cup, Annika is attending this week’s Estrella Damm Mediterranean Ladies Open. It will tee off today at Terramar Golf Club in Sitges, Spain.
The 72-hole stroke play tournament will be played just 25 minutes from Barcelona. The stunning views across the Mediterranean Sea make the course especially picturesque.
Over 15 alumnae of ANNIKA Foundation events are scheduled to compete. They include Emily Pederson, the LET 2015 Rookie of the Year, who played in the ANNIKA Invitational USA in 2013. Lynn Carlson from Sweden, played in the ANNIKA Invitational Europe in 2012, the very first year the event was held in Europe. Emma Nilsson, who is also from Sweden, played in both the ANNIKA Invitational USA and Europe in 2012. Yan Liu, the winner of the 2015 ANNIKA Invitational China, will be participating as well.
Other past ANNIKA players include Sally Watson, Justine Dreher, and Sarah Nilsson. Sally, who is from Scotland, played in the ANNIKA Invitational USA in 2009. Justine played college golf at South Carolina where she carried her team to win the ANNIKA Intercollegiate in 2014 while individually taking home the first-place trophy. And Sarah was one of the more prolific ANNIKA participants, competing in a total of four AI Europe tournaments from 2012 to 2015 plus the AI USA event in 2015.
Additional ANNIKA alumnae teeing it up in Spain are Nuria Iturrios, Nicole Borch Larsen, Olivia Cowan, Gemma Dryburgh, Tonje Daffinrud, Maria Parra, Celina Yuan, Luna Sobron, Eva Gilly, Connie Chen, Ines Lescudier, Emilie Alonso and Cloe Frankish.
